some of the top defensive units in the Hampton Roads area and state over the
years. One of the integral pieces to
their success the last few seasons was 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete
style='mso-bidi-font-weight:normal'>Jacob Brown.
style=> He helped the SunDevils
reach the 5A-South Region Final this past year and go 40-11 during his four
seasons in the program.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>At the top of the list of goals for Brown was to win as
many games as possible and get an opportunity to play at the next level, which
he will do at the Coast Guard Academy in
Connecticut.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"They showed a lot of persistence throughout the
recruiting process and they let me know early that I was their top outside
linebacker/strong safety recruit," Brown told VirginiaPreps.com.
style=> "I had the opportunity to meet with coaches,
admissions representatives and even cadets.
They really showed me that they wanted me.
style=> I also liked the fact that it's an academy
like where my brother went, but it's different."
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Brown was offered last May by Army, where his older
brother and former Landstown standout Lawrence Brown
played. Jacob also considered
Alderson-Broaddus, Christopher Newport University, Ferrum
and Averett.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Playing in the hybrid OLB/SS role, Brown plans to hover
around the football and show a knack for making key momentum-shifting plays.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"The thing they like most about my play is the
aggressiveness and swagger I play with," Brown noted.
style=> "They also like that I play fast based on instincts.
style=> I feel like I can really bring more desire
when it comes to winning and certainly more fire and energy."
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>There might not have been a better player in the city
that didn't make First Team or Second Team All-Beach District than Brown in
2012 when he recorded 85 tackles, 39 stops for loss, eight sacks, seven pass
breakups, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
style=> He followed that up with another strong
campaign in 2013 with over 80 total tackles, more than 20 tackles for loss, 5.5
sacks and five forced fumbles to earn Second Team All-Beach honors.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>What can those at the Coast Guard that'll follow Brown
closely look for?
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"Fans should definitely expect an exciting, aggressive
and punishing defender that's going to be relentless every down," he answered.
