style="font-family: Verdana;">I'm back this season covering
the
Virginia Preps Piedmont region and will do my best to attempt to keep
you up-to-date with all the happenings and events in the area.
There are six teams that have been newlyaligned in
the
Piedmont this season to go along with the returning squads that we
covered last year. The newcomers are Skyline, Turner Ashby,
Robert E. Lee-Staunton,Wilson Memorial, Stuarts Draft, and
Waynesboro.
Besides
new teams in the region, we also have some new faces at the Head
Coaching position for eight different squads. Albemarle
(Brandon
Isaiah), Brooke Point (Tom Buzzo), Caroline (Antron Yates), Louisa
County (Mark Fischer), Manassas Park (Jeff Florio), Stuarts Draft
(Nathan Floyd), Warren County (Steven Crist), and William Monroe (Jon
Rocha) will all be under new direction when things get underway in the
coming weeks.
Regular season action in the Piedmont will kickoff
on Thursday, August 28th with four teams playing under the lights.
Mountain View hosts Varina and will be looking to avenge a
42-7
loss in their season opener against the Blue Devils last fall.
Western Albemarle host Spotswood in what will likely be
another
tightly knitted contest similar to last seasons' contest between the
two foes in which the Warriors edged the Trailblazers 17-14.
King
George will also be at home as they host Washington & Lee and
will
look to get off to a winning start with hopes of matching their 7-1
spring from the gate in 2013.
North Stafford will be the lone
visiting team from the Piedmont area on Thursday night when they travel
to Petersburg. The Wolverines are surelyready to
wipe away
the bitter taste of a third straight season ending in the State
Semifinals. Several other area teams will begin their regular
season the next evening on Friday, August 29th and all of the squads in
the Piedmont will have had their first taste of live game action in
2014 by Friday, September 5th.
Until the season begins, stay
tuned to VirginiaPreps.com for plenty of preseason coverage of teams
and players to watch in the area as well as more information on the new
coaches and other interesting storylines in the Piedmont.
