Carter Creates to Host the Lawson Classic at Petersburg High School

Basketball invitational featuring great high school basketball games.

Petersburg, Virginia (January 19, 2013) - It is back! The William Lawson, Jr., Mid-Season Classic is preparing for another successful run as the most exciting one-day basketball invitational in the state of Virginia. In its four years of existence, the William Lawson, Jr., Mid-Season Classic has drawn sell-out crowds of fans from all over the state of Virginia.

Due to the overwhelming success of the William Lawson, Jr., Mid-Season Classic, the 2013 Classic is expected to be an even greater event with the nostalgic return to Petersburg High School for the event's fifth year anniversary. This year's Classic, sponsored by Harris & Wesley, Inc. dba McDonald's, will take place on January 19, 2013, at the William Lawson, Jr., Gymnasium. The Classic will feature ten highly respected athletic programs that all hail from the Mid-Atlantic Region. This year's field includes Petersburg High School, L.C. Bird High School, John Marshall High School, Green Run High School, Brunswick High School, Edison High School, Massanutten Military, Queen City Prep, Phoebus High School, and Chavez High School.

This year's Classic offers several intriguing match-ups. Perennial powerhouse, Petersburg High School will face L.C. Bird High School in the nightcap. Massanutten's Classic appearance will mark the homecoming of former Petersburg High School star and Kansas commit, Frank Mason. Massanutten will play the 12th ranked prep school in the nation, Queen City Prep out of Charlotte, NC. Other key match-up includes John Marshall High School taking on Green Run High School and the defending AA state champion Brunswick High School faces 2012 AAA state quarter-finalist, Edison High School. Phoebus High School from Hampton, VA, will kick-off the event by hosting Chavez High School out of Washington, DC.

Starring in the 2013 William Lawson, Jr., Mid-Season Classic are several future Division I players led by the aforementioned Frank Mason (Kansas), Damonte Dodd (Maryland), Jamaree Strickland (Cincinnati), Ahmed Fields (Utah), Garland Owens (Boston College), Deandre Burnette (Miami), BJ Stith (Virginia), Brandan Stith (East Carolina), Brian White (Citadel), and James Daniel, III (Howard).
