Late Touchdown Sends Lake Taylor to Win Over Phoebus

The Lake Taylor-Phoebus game lived up to the advanced billing of two state championship caliber teams. The teams went back-and-forth in a matchup reminiscent of a championship fight with the Titans winning 21-17.

The game wasn't decided until the final seconds with Lake Taylor driving 71-yards in 11 plays scoring on a 3-yard touchdown run from sophomore quarterback Jeff Foster with 17 seconds remaining.

Foster was impressive leading the Titans game-winning drive by completing a 10-yard pass on 3rd-and-4 before connecting with Malik Newton for 29 yards to the Phoebus 26-yard line. Newton added 13 more yards on two runs setting up the quarterback keeper from Foster.

Senior Anthony Wallace gave Phoebus the lead with a 27-yard field goal with 2:52 remaining in the 4th quarter. The Phantoms scoring drive was extended thanks to three Lake Taylor penalties. Phoebus scored their 1st touchdown with only two minutes off the clock in the 1st quarter after Corey Wilson picked off a pass and returned it 30 yards to the Titans 2-yard line. Jaylen White needed one carry to give Phoebus a 7-0 lead after the extra point.

Lake Taylor answered with a 40-yard touchdown run from Dominique McNair with 1:42 to go in the 1st quarter. They took a 14-7 lead in the 2nd quarter after a short 19-yard drive that Foster ended with a 3-yard touchdown run.

Phoebus added a score right before the end of the 1st half when Barry Hargraves made a great move to slip by his defender and race 55 yards for a touchdown.
