The Booker T. Washington Mighty Bookers out of Norfolk have a new Head Football Coach. William 'Stone' Robertson was hired earlier this month, replacing Darvin 'D.J.' Alexander, who went 18-34 in five seasons at the helm.

Robertson previously served as the defensive coordinator of the Bookers and has coached for 30 years, including stops at Maury and Norfolk Christian. He played at Maury.

Booker T. Washington followed up a 6-5 season in 2018 by going 4-6 last year. The Bookers - who produced the NFL's all-time sack leader in Bruce Smith - have won two playoff games in their program's history. Their first postseason victory came in 1997 when they defeated Churchland 9-3, while their second playoff triumph was in 2014 when the Norfolk school edged Powhatan 40-37.

Slated to return for the Bookers are eight offensive starters and eight defensive starters from last season's team. That includes Pittsburgh recruit Rodney Hammond, who rushed for 1503 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior to bring his career totals to 4138 yards and 38 touchdowns. He also had six interceptions on defense in 2019.

Coach Robertson was a guest with VirginiaPreps.com's Matthew Hatfield during 'The 757 at 6,' on ESPN Radio 94.1 on Monday, April 20th. You can catch that full interview at the link below.
