High School Sports Talk Presented by VirginiaPreps.com airs each and every Saturday from 10 AM EST to Noon on ESPN Radio 94.1, hosted by Matthew Hatfield and Coach Ed Young.

Minus Ed for the opening segment, Matt went through the scoreboard of games across the Hampton Roads area from the two nights before.

In the second segment of the program, Trinity Episcopal three-star guard Jason Wade phoned in to discuss his recent commitment to play College Basketball at Old Dominion University, where his father Ronnie also played (see our recent story on site with more about it here). Jason and his Trinity teammates will participating in the 10th Annual VirginiaPreps.com Basketball Classic nightcap against W.T. Woodson on January 13, 2018 at Henrico High in a matchup of defending State Champs.

An interview with Western Branch three-star defensive tackle Jalen Alexander was played back from his commitment ceremony last Thursday when he announced for the Maryland Terrapins of the Big Ten. Alexander, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound lineman out of Chesapeake, chose Maryland over the likes of ACC schools Georgia Tech, NC State and North Carolina.

During the second hour of the show, an interview with Oscar Smith Head Football Coach Scott Johnson from the team's 28-6 victory over previously undefeated Deep Creek was played back. Johnson's Tigers used a suffocating defensive performance in the rain to improve to 6-1 overall, and in the process, push the school's Southeastern District to an impressive 97 games with three left to play before the playoffs.

Kate Yanchulis from the Daily Press stopped by to talk about Hampton vs. Phoebus with the guys. The game is annually one of the most anticipated on the schedule during the regular season in Hampton Roads and the Peninsula District, where the two schools have combined to win a whopping 24 State Championships (17 by the Crabbers, 7 for the Phantoms).

To close out the show, the fellas glanced ahead at next week's not-so-attractive slate of games around the area.
