High School Sports Talk Presented by VirginiaPreps.com airs each and every Saturday from 10 AM EST to Noon on ESPN Radio 94.1, hosted by Matthew Hatfield and Coach Ed Young.
Coach Young and Matt recapped the first Friday night of High School Football action for 2016 with a new show open, plus ran through the scoreboard of games around the Hampton Roads area. There were some noteworthy surprises. It was headlined by the likes of traditional powers Ocean Lakes, Oscar Smith and Lake Taylor all losing in the same night for the first time since September 7, 2001.
New Salem Head Football Coach Shawn Wilson, whose Sun Devils ended Ocean Lakes' 41-game Beach District winning streak, came on the program to discuss his team's season-opening victory.
A playback interview with Phoebus Head Football Coach Jeremy Blunt, whose Phantoms edged Wilson on Thursday, aired as well as one with DeMatha's Elijah Brooks, the Head Coach a Stags team that beat Oscar Smith.
The guys reviewed Hat's Hits - the 5 takeaways from the opening Friday of the season - plus were joined by Heritage Head Football Coach George Massenburg as his Hurricanes went from losing to Lake Taylor 54-0 last year to beating the Titans.
Last but not least, the fellas looked ahead to next week's key games, plus gave their Final Four predictions for the College Football season that's set to get underway.
