Green Run Bests Ocean Lakes on Perfect Night
On a beautiful autumn, check that, late winter / early spring evening, Ocean Lakes celebrated their seniors playing their final home football game. However, Green Run came in with other ideas, looking to spoil the joyous occasion and topple the Dolphins for the first time since 2007.
The visiting crew from Dahlia Drive did just that, notching an 18-7 win to even their record to .500 on the campaign.
Both teams traded blows early, with Green Run QB Xavier Davis rushing for a score to open the action, followed by Ocean Lakes striking back when Campbell commit Carlton Winston III picked off a pass by Davis, returning it 25 yards for a score.
Dolphins fans - about 500 or so in attendance, a rarity in these COVID days - were certainly pumped for that big score as it looked to be the catalyst on a night in which they could secure a playoff spot in Region 6A.
There wasn't much to get fired about for the host crowd the rest of the night. In fact, that lead would be short-lived as Davis would find UNC commit Tayon Holloway for a score before also throwing one to standout freshman receiver Keylen 'Brodie' Adams.
Once Green Run took the lead, they didn't relinquish that advantage as neither team scored in the second half, despite both having some really good looks at the end zone. Both had trips inside the 10-yard line multiple times.
