Smith from the Class of 2014 has arrived at a decision on where
he will play his College Football. On
Sunday afternoon, Smith gave a verbal commitment to the
normal'>West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets, a Division II
program in the Mountain East Conference.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Smith also held offers from Elizabeth City State and
Mayville State. Other schools he
considered were Averett, Campbell, Chowan and
Shepherd. His trip to West Virginia
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>"I enjoyed the official visit there,"
class=SpellE>Boojoe told VirginiaPreps.com.
style=> "And the coaches made me feel at home."
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>West Virginia State recruited Smith as an athlete.
style=> It appears to be a toss-up on what position
he plays, likely between wide receiver and free safety.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>While at Granby, Boojoe
contributed on both sides of the ball.
He started three years at quarterback, highlighted by his junior year
when the team finished 9-2 overall and earned a trip to the playoffs.
style=> During the regular season for the Comets that
year, he threw for 910 yards, nine touchdowns and only five interceptions.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>Although Granby didn't return to the postseason in
2013, Boojoe played a key role and did enough to
garner Second Team All-Eastern District honors as a utility player.
style=> There were a few games where he stood out for
the Comets.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>In a 19-14 win over Great Bridge, Smith rolled up 125
total yards, rushed for a touchdown and made two interceptions from his
defensive back spot. With Granby
trailing Booker T. Washington 22-0, Boojoe sparked a
comeback with three touchdown passes and over 200 yards through the air as the
Comets scored 26 unanswered for a win over their city rival.
style=> Even in defeat against Kecoughtan,
he ran for three touchdowns and showed the ability to make things happen with
his feet.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>A historically black public college founded in 1891,
West Virginia State began competing in intercollegiate football in 1942.
style=> They've won three conference titles in school
history, two as a member of the CIAA.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'>After completing his first season as West Virginia State's
Head Coach, Jon Anderson recently promoted
Nick Benedetto to defensive
coordinator. The Yellow Jackets finished
0-11 last season and will enter 2014 looking to snap a 17-game losing
streak. Their last winning season was in
2008 when they finished 7-3 overall.
"Verdana","sans-serif"'> "I plan to bring
the program to the top of the conference," Smith said.
style=> "The goal is to get a ring."
