Blue Ridge opened defense of their 2016 State Championship with 39-12 win over Atlantic Shores. The result was never in doubt as Blue Ridge scored on their 1st three offensive possessions and they led 26-0 at halftime.

Blue Ridge scored on their 1st play from scrimmage when George Mcguire broke several tackles while running for a 36-yard touchdown. McGuire scored another touchdown after an 8-play drive with 3:27 to go in the 1st quarter.

Quarterback Xavier Kane added almost 200 yards of offense throwing for 153 yards including a touchdown and running for 44 yards with a touchdown. Samuel Fort led the team in rushing with 83 yards while added two touchdown runs from 9 and 18 yards out.

Cameron Carr had two receptions for 67 yards and a touchdown while sophomore Michael Asher had two spectacular receptions for 68 yards.

The Barons defense recorded a safety while forcing two turnovers. Kane had eight tackles and he intercepted a 2-pount conversion. interception. Aden Britton added six stops and Abdoulaye Camera (6-foot-2, 293) had a fumble recovery.

Atlantic Shores scored both of their touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Quarterback Camden Walker scored on a 1-yard quarterback sneak and he connected with Jaden Lance on an 7-yard touchdown completion. Walker had 80 yards rushing and 62 yards passing with most of it coming in the second half.

The schools last met in November in the VISAA DII State Semi playoff game. Blue Ridge won that contest 34-15
