NFL Camp Recap

The annual NFL camp to support the Hampton Roads Youth foundation was held at Christopher Newport University on Saturday with close to a 100 high school prospects attending. The camp is in it's 18th year and is hosted by Hampton Roads alumni Carl Francis and Vernon Lee. Francis is in media relations for the NFL Players Association.

A host of current and former NFL players served as camp coaches including current Tampa Bay defensive back D.J. Moore and Tennessee Titans defensive end James Gayle. Retire NFL player Dwight Hollier (Colts), and Elton Brown (Cardinals).

Although Moore is not from the Hampton Roads area, the 6-year NFL veteran still made the trip from South Carolina to spend his weekend helping out at the camp.

"Every year I put on my camp where I'm from and I know it's fun for the kids," Moore said. "I do it a little bit different in that I get out there and run routes with them...give them a chance to say they competed against an NFL guy."

Landstown receiver Quincy Watts is a recent commit to Old Dominion and he caught the eye Moore when the two went one-on-one on several pass drills. Watts said he enjoyed the competition.

"He was coming at me kind of hard and he made me play harder," Watts said. "I felt like I had to step it up. He made it fun and wasn't all serious like a lot of camps."

The camp ended with a barbeque lunch and a chat session where the players were given both information about college admission and general life lessons.
