VTO Richmond: What to watch

Excitement and expectations are high for Sunday's VTO Sports Elite 100 Camp in Richmond, Va., at Highland Springs High School as the event annually showcases the depth of talent throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

The 2014 camp should be no exception as some of the top players from Virginia are expected to be on hand to compete.

A couple of offered players to keep an eye on heading into the event are rising senior defensive tackle Andre Booker from Manchester (James Madison offer) and class of 2016 defensive back Traveon Redd from Magna Vista (Old Dominion offer).

The invitation-only camp will feature a strong and deep group of running backs headed up by a pair of big-time performers in Coleman Fox, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards for Salem last season, and Tuscarora standout Noah Reimers who totaled nearly 1,800 yards during his junior season. They will be joined by rising seniors Brandon Jones from Great Bridge, Jashawn Banks from Broad Run and Stephen Mines from L.C. Bird who are each expected to put up big numbers this fall.

Fans and analysts will want to keep an eye on the big men as defensive linemen Chris Artis (Meadowbrook), Dedrion Bacote (Oscar Smith) and Drew Birchmeier (Cosby) will square off against offensive linemen Michael Cipolla (Princess Anne) and Kevin Staton (Great Bridge). All five are class of 2016 prospects, so we should get a good early look at some of the players expected to dominate along the line of scrimmage the next two seasons.

Some good youngsters have lined up to test their skills at the event as well as class of 2017 stars Rayshard Ashby (L.C. Bird), Jeremiah Boyd (Heritage-Newport News) and Shedrick McCall (Matoaca) all appear on the combine roster.

Other names to keep an eye on include: linebacker Dimitri Holloway (Heritage-Newport News), quarterback Reid Chenault (Goochland) and athletes Jordan Jefferson (Goochland) and Marcus VanHook (Heritage-Newport News).

Stay tuned to VirginiaPreps.com for reports from the event!
