Saunders leaving Gretna for job in Georgia

template The Gretna Hawks will be in the market for a new coach in the coming weeks following the resignation of head coachKevin Saunders who resigned his post at the school in order to take the same position at Cross Keys High School in DeKalb County in Georgia.

Saunders took over the reins of the Hawks program in 2009 and won 49 games against only 15 losses in the five subsequent seasons.

"I love this community and the kids here," said Saunders via e-mail. "But I felt that it was time for me to start worrying about myself personally. I need to get in a situation to make money and to have more of an impact on young men."

Prior to his time at Gretna, Saunders served as head coach at William Campbell, Osbourn, J.J. Kelly, Sequatchi County (TN) and Shelby Valley (KY) notching a combined 157-80-2 record. He collected a state championship with the Hawks in 2011, won two region championships at William Campbell, guided Shelby Valley to three consectuive postseason appearances including their first ever playoff win and took J.J. Kelly to three straight postseasons, a first in school history.
