Florida DE flips to Auburn
- - AUBURN | One month following his impressive camp performance that earned him an offer, and just weeks after a return visit to the Plains, First Coast (Fla.) defensive end Raashed Kennion flipped his commitment from Cincinnati to Auburn on Wednesday.
Kennion is 6-foot-6, 225-pounds, and gave the good news to defensive line coach Rodney Garner.
"I love the program, love the coaches and the people that are there and the whole area. I knew deep down I wanted to go to Auburn," Kennion told AuburnSports.com.
"I love Auburn, my vibe is straight love. When I visited the campus the players showed me love and the people that didn't even know me showed me love. I love the atmosphere and I know the program well."
Kennion said he made his final decision on Tuesday night. He called Garner on Wednesday afternoon.
"I called Coach and said my mother and I just finished talking and I'd love to commit. He said he loves to hear that," Kennion said.
"Coach Garner and I have a great relationship. He kept everything within the lines and was great to me and my family. he told me about the expectations and what I needed to do to play in the SEC. I told him I'm ready."
Garner stressed the need to Kennion for weakside defensive ends and Kennion believes his skills and length are exactly what is needed.
"They need more pass rushers and I feel like I can do that for him," said Kennion. "Coach Garner was talking about putting weight on me and they can alternate me between tackle and end."
Some may wonder, Kennion flipped once, could he do it again?
"This is my spot. Auburn is my spot," said Kennion.
Kenion plans to graduate early and enroll at Auburn in January.
