South Carolina's football staff has secured another verbal commitment in the 2014 class today.
Piedmont (S.C.) Woodmont offensive lineman Malik Young made his pledge to the Gamecocks after an unofficial visit on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder burst onto the scene with a Gamecock offer earlier this month. South Carolina offensive line coach scouted Young and offered the Upstate lineman after an evaluation period trip to Woodmont. The sleeper prospect still has some work to do in the classroom, but is truly under the radar as South Carolina State was his only other scholarship offer.
"I just committed," Young told GamecockCentral.com. "Coach Elliott is a great coach, the environment is great and the fact I get to play for the team I've been wanting to play for since I started playing football is a dream come true."
Elliott was happy to hear the news that the Upstate product was in the fold.
"He was extremely excited. He said it was fantastic to have me on board."
Young said that he has no plans to make any other trips or entertain any other offers should they come along.
"This is it, I'm a committed Gamecock," he said. "I'm going on the official visit in January and both of their camps."
Young is the fourth verbal commitment in the 2014 class for South Carolina, joining Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove LB Bryson Allen-Williams, Dillon (S.C.) ATH Joe Blue, and Goose Creek (S.C.) TE Kalan Ritchie.
