White feels at home on Rutgers unofficial
Antoine White spent much of Thursday on campus at Rutgers for an unofficial visit. After postponing his scheduled trip last week due to the threat of inclement weather, Millville defensive tackle
From the time he got to campus, White said he felt comfortable.
"Everyone was so welcoming, it almost felt like I was on an official visit," he said. "I got a chance to speak with the academic dean for a while. I got to speak to my defensive line coach [Jim Panagos] for a while, which is always a good thing. I spoke with coach Flood for 30 minutes and got to pick his brain."
Another key conversation White had came with a current Scarlet Knight who is also a defensive lineman from New Jersey.
"I also talked to one of the defensive linemen who played as a true freshman last year, Darius Hamilton," White said. "I got to talk to him about why he chose Rutgers. He had various offers from all over; he could have went anywhere in the country. I really got to sit down and talk about why Rutgers was his choice and why it is a good college."
According to White, the former Bosco star had a lot to say about why Rutgers was the right place for him.
"Just the family feel they have. He really believed in the program," White said. "He said why go somewhere else and help someone else in a different state build something that they already have when you can help your home state build something they are on the verge of doing.
"It showed how much he believed in the program. It felt good to hear it from someone of that status, like talking to an older brother almost."
White said the visit today "left me with a lot of thinking and talking to do with my parents." Rutgers has certainly positioned itself well with White, but he said he wants to make sure he has thought things out carefully before committing to any program.
"I can't really put a time frame on it [committing]," he explained. "It [the visit] definitely left me with a lot of decision making to do with my family and coaches. But as far as feeling right, that's what it is going to come down to. I still want to see other places. I don't want to be one of those guys who commits and then takes it back or commits and then goes on five visits. I don't want to be that guy."
