Spartans stop into see Ohio WR
The Big Ten region has numerous outstanding wide receiver prospects for the class of 2014. Earlier this week the Michigan State staff stopped into the high school of a player who could be one of the most coveted wideouts in the Midwest before all is said and done. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/501262/highlights/17269375
Earlier this week SpartanMag.com received some information that the Michigan State staff was looking at a dynamic player in Ohio named Conner Krizancic of Mento High School in Ohio. We caught up with the 6-foot-2, 193-pound prospect and learned that not only are the Spartans involved but they are anxious to have him on campus this summer.
Last fall Mentor High School was one of the most dynamic teams in the Midwest. Lead by North Carolina quarterback commitment Mitch Trubisky the Cardinal complied a record of 12-2 and averaged over 45 points a game. Krizancic was Trubisky's main target and now many college coaches are recognizing just how talented he is.
Last fall Krizancic caught 82 passes for 1150-yards and 12 touchdowns. He also rushed for 357-yards on 46 carries and scored 7 touchdowns. He did this against a schedule that included powerhouse programs such as Cleveland St. Ignatius, Lakewood St Edwards, Warren Harding and Erie McDowell. For his efforts he was named 1st Team All-League, 1st Team All-District and Honorable mention All-State.
SpartanMag.com spoke with Krizancic about his recruitment and got the latest details.
"Right now I have offers from Cincinnati, Toledo, Kent State, Buffalo and Ohio University," Krizancic stated. "Pitt told me earlier today that they are "very close" to offering. I will be visiting there soon. I am also hearing from Michigan State, Boston College and Indiana."
We asked Krizancic what type of contact he has had with Michigan State University.
"I have talked to Coach Bollman," Krizancic said. "He was at school yesterday. I went up to Michigan State for the Notre Dame game last year. Coach Bollman has told me he wants me up there in June."
Coach Bollman knew about Krizancic when he was at Boston College, and he has kept in contact with him since joining the Michigan State staff.
Playing football for an elite program like Mentor High School requires players to be focused on both their athletics and academics once the fall rolls around. It is for that reason that Krizancic hopes to make his college decision this summer. We asked him about his time-table and what he is looking for in a college.
"Yes, I would like to make a decision before the season," he stated. "It has to be a good football program and good academic school. I definitely got to like the coaching staff as well."
SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Krizancic in the coming weeks. We fully expect his offer list to expand during the spring evaluation period. We have also linked some highlight film of him below. Be sure to checkout the clip at 1:13 to get a good idea of his ability to move in open space.
Matt Dorsey's Take: Watching film we saw some elements of several former high-level Spartan wide receivers. One interesting aspect about Krizancic's recruitment is that this fall he will more than likely be lining up at quartertback for Mentor High School. Several former Spartan great wide receivers spent their high school careers at the quarterback position.
