Dominic Hollins tip in with 8.4 seconds on the clock was the difference as Evangel Christian held on in the final seconds to secure a 58-56 win over Bishop Sullivan in the first game of the Coaches for the Cure showcase. Hollins finished with 12 points including eight points in the final quarter mostly on tip-ins and layups.
Evangel used an 11-0 first quarter run and led by as many as 12 points early in the second quarter before seeing their lead evaporate in the second half.
A three by Thomas East gave Bishop O Sullivan a 46-40 lead at the start of the fourth quarter and two free throws by Phillip Owens made the score 52-47 with four minutes remaining. Evangel would tie the game at 52 after a three by Michael Robertson and a layup by Hollins. With a little over a minute to go in the game, Hollins converted a tip-in for a 2-point lead then made the game winner on a similar play.
Dakotah Youngblood led Evangel with 16 points and sophomore Charles Williams added 13 points and 10 rebounds. Michael Robertson had 10 points.
DeAndre Barber and Phillip Owens both scored 15 points for Bishop O Sullivan while Darren Belardo added seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
