Pitcher Jordan Roby pitched a complete game for his second win and Andy Allison, Hampton's only senior starter, went 1-2 from the plate, scored two runs and had one RBI and to give the Hampton Crabbers a 7-4 win over the Warwick Raiders.
The Crabbers took a 4-0 lead after a inning and a half with Roby and Allison scoring runs in the first inning and driving in runs in the second. Warwick added two unearned runs in the second and closed to within one on an RBI single by Nick Lawless.
Allison manufactured a run on a walk, two stolen bases, and a passed ball in the fifth, and added an insurance run in the seventh with a grounder that scored Giovanni Robinson who tripled earlier in the inning. Robinson also drove in his second RBI of the game when Roby scored ahead of him. A towering two-out seventh inning homerun by Warwick's Jonathan Kepler over the centerfield fence was of no consequence as Roby struckout Lawless for the final out.
Roby held the districts homerun leader Jason Ellington to a 1-4 performance from the plate. "I was just trying to keep the ball out of the zone," said Roby, a sophomore, who was making only his third start of the year. "This was my best performance."
The win was the 4th in a row for the Crabbers who sit in third place in the Peninsula district. The Crabbers started eight freshman and sophomores in their lineup. "It was a real big win," Allison said. "It shows we have the ability to play with anybody." Hampton can end the season with a .500 in the district with a win over district rival Bethel on Wednesday. Bethel won the first meeting 14-3.
