Nansemond Suffolk remained undefeated with an easy 51-6 win over Norfolk Christian on Saturday night. It was the third straight blowout win for the Saints who will host undefeated Bishop Sullivan on Friday in a big TCIS showdown.
Junior fullback David Gough rushed for three touchdowns while adding 76 yards on the ground. The Saints totaled 313 yards to only 88 for Norfolk Christian. The Ambassadors gained 71 of their 88 yards on their only touchdown drive.
The Saints first three scoring drives took 1:40, 0:08 and 2:41 as they took a 23-0 lead with 3:55 to go in the first quarter. They added two more touchdowns in the second quarter including a 1-yard touchdown by Gough and a 11-yard touchdown run by Michael Tyler Lepore.
Norfolk Christian's only points came on a pass from Jonathan Kraft to George Wahee who caught the pass on the sideline, tipped the ball to himself, side-stepped a defender, and ran the final distance for a 58-yard touchdown. The score temporarily halted the mercy rule running clock.
It didn't take the Saints long to get the running clock started again. Sophomore Noah Giles ran the ball twice for 18-yards on a 3-play drive and his touchdown run on a sweep extended the lead to 44-6 with 6:30 to go in the third quarter. Gough scored his third touchdown with a minute to go in the third quarter to make the score 51-6.
