SUSSEX- Senior John 'PJ' Jones had a great night through all the distractions and the emotions of homecoming night. The school retired the jersey of Tyquan Johnson tonight prior to kick-off as fans paid tribute to the legacy of the outstanding student-athlete. The Tiger's head football coach made his return calling plays from the press box. Jones would not take long to leave his mark on that night.

Jones would have a big punt return setting up Sussex first offensive possession. Sophomore quarterback Deqwandre Jones would throw a perfect pass into the arms of J. Jones to give the Tigers an 8-0. Darian Curley would take an option pitch walk into the endzone to make it 14-0.

At the half John Jones would be apart of the homecoming ceremony where his was crowned homecoming king.

After a sluggish 2nd quarter, D. Jones would hit his other big play receiver in Charles Bryant for a 28 yard touchdown pass to make it 20-0 Tigers. Bryant would also make an interception on the night.

Curley would break a run where it seemed his was wrapped up but broke loose to complete a 59 yard touchdown run to put things out of reach of a miracle at 28-0.

John Jones would put the icing on the cake with a 43 yard interception return for the touchdown.

Curley finished the night with 21 carries for 176 yards and 2 touchdowns while the defense held the Panthers to 2 first downs on the night and getting 4 interceptions.

The bright spot for Charles City was the play of Jaelan Williams who appeared to be only nearly every Panther stop defensively.

Sussex Central (8-0) will travel to Franklin (8-0) for the chance to capture the top seed in the Division 1 Eastern section playoffs.

Charles City (3-5) will host Surry for their homecoming and a chance to improve their seeding.
